Tarot Cards are made up of seventy-eight cards or more. They are made up of 2 different groups. The Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana are considered their own suit. The Minor Arcana are made up four different suits: Wands, Pentacles, Swords and Cups. This is similar to the Hearts, Spades, Clubs and Diamonds of poker cards.
Tarot originally began as a game called Tarrochi sometime in the late 14th century. There’s no record of them being used for divination purposes until the late 18th century.
All tarot cards have the same values of traditional playing cards. Each suit is numbered from Ace to King, however there are four court cards instead of three. Where as our traditional playing cards have the King, Queen and Jack, the tarot card goes one step lower and offers the Page or Squire.
Each suit speaks to a specific attribute of the human experience as well as one of the four elements.
- Wands – Spirituality and Creativity (fire)
- Swords – Conflict and Tension (air)
- Cups – Emotions and Relationships (water)
- Pentacles – Money (earth)
Each card has a specific meaning or energy to it. Some cards are more abstract while most others have pictures on them which reflect the meaning of the cards. Most tarot readers prefer picture tarot cards as they enhance the intuition and do not require the reader to memorize the meaning of each card.
The Major Arcana is different from the Minor Arcana in that it’s suit is not devised in Ace-King. It is made up of 22 cards, and each card has a very specific life stage to it. You will see cards such as The Fool, The Empress, The Moon, The Tower and others in this suit.
Each tarot deck is different, which means that the meaning of the cards can be slightly different as well.
A good tarot reader will use her intuition to pick out the best deck for your reading. She will pick up on the different nuances that make each card unique and adds more detail to your individual reading.
Can A Tarot Card Reading Actually Help Me?
In a word, yes. A tarot card reading can give you the answer to anything that is on your mind. It can give you a deep, insider’s look at your love life, career, family issues and more. Tarot is useful in showing you the details you may be missing and shows you what the most probable outcome is based on your current path.
However, tarot does much more than show you the future. If you ask the right questions, the tarot can show you how to change your path to get the results you want. Many people who have had a tarot reading are blown away by the accuracy and sound advice they receive from the reading.
When used correctly, tarot is a life enhancing tool that can help you to
- Discover your hidden fears
- Discover your hidden talents
- Put you in touch with your Higher Self
- Put you in touch with God, your Angels or other deities you believe in
- Encourage you to be a better person
- Show you your life path
- Reveal your own (or your lover, coworker, boss, etc.) true nature
- And more
A good tarot reader will be able to read the cards and explain them in a way that makes sense to you. She does this by connecting to your energy and the energy of the question, while asking her team of angels and spirit guides to provide the correct answers.
Most people will benefit greatly from a tarot reading. Whether you believe in the art of fortune telling doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that you recognize potentially dangerous patterns in your life, get a better understanding of yourself and correct your life path to get the results you want.
