Let’s face it. Sometimes, life is BORING. And not just boring. More like monotonous, tedious, dull and repetitive.

If you’re like the average human, your to-do list looks something like this.

-Wake up to fear inducing heart pumping high pitched screech from alarm clock
-Brush teeth
-Shower
-Wake up kids
-Fight with kids
-Feed dog
-Feed kids
-Fight with kids some more
-Drive kids to school
-Drop kids off at school
-Drive through fast food joint because you forgot to feed yourself this morning
-Drive to work
-Spend 8-12 hours staring at a computer screen under florescent lights wondering….

Is this all there is?

Once you clock out of your thankless job, you either pick something up on the way home from work so you don’t have to cook, or you were smart enough to fix something in your slow cooker / crock pot so that dinner was ready when you got home, and all you have to do is serve it. After that, you probably had 2-3 hours to spend with your family and after that, you’re off to bed so that you can repeat the process.

Boring?

Damn straight.

But just because you have adult responsibilities doesn’t mean that they should suck all the fun out of life. You need to keep things fresh and exciting, because life should be about enjoyment. You need to find your sense of adventure.

And thankfully, I have some tips that can help you with that.

Practical Applications:

Explore something local – Chances are that there is a place in your own town that you’ve never stepped foot in. There are activities that are open to you that you haven’t even tried. Maybe there’s a new restaurant near your work that serves an exotic type of food you’ve never even heard of. Maybe there’s a hiking trail a mile down your house that you haven’t even driven by.

The point is that we don’t have to travel too far to find some form of adventure. Often there is something in our own backyard that we simply overlooked.

Not sure what there is to do in your town or nearby areas? Then do a google search, check the newspaper, call your tourist center or even a travel agent to see what places you can visit and what activities you can take part of in your city.

Plan a vacation – Granted, this isn’t something you can do everyday. It’s not even something you can do every month. But planning a vacation to a new place that you’ve never been to before gives you something to look forward too.

It opens up your sense of adventure. It gets you excited. It allows you to look forward to the day when you get to pack up your belongings, hop on a plane and get going.

And if you can’t afford an extravagant getaway, then opt for something smaller. Pack up your car and go camping somewhere. Be with nature for a few days. Just be sure that it’s in a place that you can thoroughly enjoy.

Play a sport – There’s nothing quite like a healthy competition to make things interesting. There are so many benefits to taking up a sport that it’s almost too much to mention. Most sports are physical, which means that they burn plenty of calories and release endorphins, which are those hormones that make you feel good. It’s the same feeling you get after a nice night of chica-chica-bow-wow or eating an entire box of chocolate (although both can quickly turn into feelings of guilt and shame).

Sports are also exciting if you play against other people or another team, because you don’t know which of you are going to win. There’s something about giving your best to a sport that really lifts your spirits and makes you feel good about yourself.

Spiritual Applications:

Visualize an Adventure – Sitting cross legged while your left leg falls asleep while closing your eyes and breathing in deeply may not sound like fun, but it is if you are visualizing something fun. One of my favorite sites on the web is meditainment.com They have a large guided meditation library that suits your every mood. Each meditation offers a different adventure and different form of insight. These meditations not only help you to address problems, they’re also fun!

Contact Archangel Gabriel – Gabriel’s name means “God is my strength,” and she is known for bringing inspiration and guidance to those who need it. You can call on Gabriel anytime. All you need to do is say her name and tell her what you need.

Prayer – Sometimes, a simple prayer of faith is all it takes to change your life. And this is no different. Your prayer for adventure, passion and excitement might go something like this:

Divine Spirit,

I have the faith of a child and the spirit of an explorer. I look forward to each new day, wondering what amazing thrills are going to come my way. I thank you for renewing my joy for living every morning, and I am ready to see to what new interesting things, lessons and adventures you have in store for me. I thank you for giving me the courage to try new things, to step out of my comfort zone, and to enjoy my own adventures. Amen.

There are lots of ways to bring a sense of adventure back into your life, and to find them, you just need to be creative. Heck, even playing a different board game every night for a few weeks can feel adventurous and fun.

The point is that you should never allow your life to become so boring that you have nothing left to look forward too. You deserve a nice life. You deserve to have fun.

What are some things that you can do to add some fun and excitement into your life?
